Gazprom's investments in gas processing increased a hundred-fold over past 15 years, according to Gazprom Department Head Lebedev at St. Petersburg International Gas Forum 2023

Key trends in development of gas processing, achievements and problems of the industry are the topics of the report presented today by Yuri Lebedev, Department Head at PJSC Gazprom and General Director of Gazprom Pererabotka Blagoveshchensk LLC, at the 12th St. Petersburg International Gas Forum (SPIGF). He spoke at the applied research conference called Development of Oil and Gas Processing Production Sites and Prospective Technologies for Hydrocarbon Crude Procession hosted by Gazprom Pererabotka and the Russian Gas Society with the support of Expert Analytical Centre (Expert North-West) as part of SPIGF business program. In his report, Mr Lebedev drew attention to the key factor — the multifold growth of Gazprom's investments in the gas processing industry.

«Fifteen years ago, the development of gas processing assets was not a priority for Gazprom; however, investments into processing have recently increased a hundredfold and amount to hundreds of billions of rubles a year. This shows Gazprom's desire to diversify its business in order to meet the requirements of the time. In addition to the revamping and modernization of the existing production facilities, two new megaprojects are being implemented: the Amur Gas Processing Plant in the Far East and the complex for processing ethane-containing gas and LNG production in the Leningrad Region in Ust-Luga. Construction of the new plants does not stop, despite all the current challenges and external constraints,» says Mr Lebedev.

Ayrat Ishmurzin, moderator of the meeting and General Director of Gazprom Pererabotka, recalled that the coming years for the industry will be marked by a grand event — Amur Gas Processing Plant, the world's largest natural gas processing site, will reach its full capacity.

«Igor Afanasyev was the first Director General of this large production complex, and he had worked for Gazprom Pererabotka for many years before that. The life of this talented man tragically ended on August 16. I would like to make a proposal to dedicate the next conference to the memory of Igor Afanasyev, whose contribution to construction of the Amur Gas Processing Plant cannot be overrated,» said Mr Ishmurzin.

The conference was attended by the representatives of oil and gas companies, leading universities and research centers in Russia. A wide range of issues of gas processing and gas chemistry were discussed: industry development trends, new technologies, energy efficiency improvements, digitalization of production, environmental, staffing, and much more.
