GPPB takes part in Down with Algae ecological project

The company (investor, owner and operator of the Amur GPP) placed plastic lid collection boxes in its administrative buildings. The company's workers can fill the boxes with used plastic until mid-May, and then the lids will be sent for recycling. GPPB will purchase carp fry in exchange for recyclables and release it into the Zeya River in September. Improving a natural condition of the reservoir, the fry will grow and eat algae.

Such a way to fight against algae and the so-called «blooming» of water was proposed by scientists. Excessive development of planktonic algae in reservoirs leads to a sharp deterioration in water quality. Employees of the state budgetary institution Ecology hosting the project said that blue-green algae produced toxins causing intestinal diseases, cramp, conjunctivitis and allergies.

Gazprom Pererabotka Blagoveshchensk strives to preserve a favorable environment for the present and future generations. The company's workers take part in events on cleaning recreational areas of Svobodny, Svobodnensky districts, and the nearest water bodies every year with landscaping of the territories of social institutions.
