Igor Afanasyev, First Director of Gazprom Pererabotka Blagoveshchensk LLC, passes away
Mr Afanasyev began his career at the Surgut Condensate Stabilization Plant of Gazprom's Surgutgazprom LLC after graduating from the Tyumen Industrial Institute with a degree in Chemical Process of Fuels and Carbon Materials in 1993.
Having started his career in production, Mr Afanasyev worked his way up from a category 2 process engineer to a shift supervisor of the production personnel from 1993 to 1998. He was appointed Chief Process Engineer of the plant in 1998.
In 2000, Mr Afanasyev was appointed Chief Engineer of the Surgut Condensate Stabilization Plant. From 2000 to 2007, he oversaw the technological development of the plant, improvement of the operations of the technical services of the company, revamping, retrofitting and upgrading of the existing production facilities. Modern production facilities of the plant were gradually put into operation under his leadership: stabilization units, primary and secondary hydrocarbon feedstock processing units, processes were improved, which allowed Surgut Condensate Stabilization Plant to provide for a significant potential for production back then and to still remain one of the largest plants processing gas condensate and hydrocarbon raw materials in Russia.
Gazprom Pererabotka Limited Liability Company was established in 2007 to consolidate Gazprom Group's processing assets, Mr Afanasyev was appointed Chief Engineer — First Deputy General Director. He was in charge of R&D and technical development of Gazprom Pererabotka, ensured proper implementation of the production program for gas, gas condensate and oil processing and transportation of hydrocarbon liquids.
From 2014 to 2019, Mr Afanasyev continued his implementation of the task assigned to him to combine and create new production facilities for hydrocarbon feedstock processing as Deputy Head of Department — Head of Directorate at PJSC Gazprom. He oversaw the processing assets part of Gazprom's subsidiaries: Gazprom Pererabotka LLC, Gazprom Dobycha Astrakhan LLC, Gazprom Dobycha Orenburg LLC, and Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat OJSC.
Mr Afanasyev was invited to Gazprom Pererabotka Blagoveshchensk LLC at the initial stage of the company's establishment in 2015 to the position of General Director. From 2015 to 2019, he managed to complete significant work related to commencement of the Amur Gas Processing Plant project in Svobodny, Amur region.
