Quality of air in Amur GPP construction zone evaluated by environmental professionals

The next stage of annual industrial environmental monitoring has commenced within the construction zone of Amur Gas Processing Plant (GPP). It is being performed by the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Centre of Laboratory Analysis and Technical Measurement for the Far Eastern Federal District”.

Atmospheric air is sampled in the sanitary protection zone of the plant, as well as on the border of the nearest settlements of Svobodnensky district. The environmental professionals determine the concentrations of dust and suspended particles, carbon and nitrogen oxides, nitrogen and sulfur dioxides, hydrocarbons, benzo[a]pyrene and hydrogen sulfide were determined. Already at the sampling stage, the experts have noted that the maximum permissible concentrations of pollutants are within the norm. Centre of Laboratory Analysis and Technical Measurement for the Far Eastern Federal District will soon have to assess the quality of surface waters and bottom sediments in the Bolshaya Pyora River and soil, as well as noise levels. Final results of this stage of studies will be ready by early April.

Industrial environmental monitoring at the plant's construction site has been carried out regularly ever since the beginning of the project. Safety of construction and compliance of its main parameters with the Russian and international environmental standards has been confirmed by the findings of more than 2,000 samples.

Background

Amur GPP is to be one of the world's largest natural gas processing plants with its annual capacity of 42 billion cubic meters of gas. At its full capacity, Amur GPP is to provide annually around 2.4 million tons of ethane, 1.5 million tons of liquefied petroleum gas, 200 thousand tons of pentane and hexane fraction, and 60 million cubic meters of helium.
