Regular environmental monitoring campaign took place in the construction area of the Amur Gas Processing Plant

Regular environmental monitoring campaign took place in the construction area of the Amur Gas Processing Plant. Experts of the Federal State Budgetary Institution «Center for Laboratory Analysis and Technical Measurements in the Far Eastern Federal District» took samples of atmospheric air, surface water, bottom sediments and soil, and measured the noise level. The survey was carried out in the sanitary protection area of the construction site of the plant, as well as in the four nearest settlements of the Svobodnensky district.

Now, the experts of the institution will have to examine the samples to find out how construction of the Amur Gas Processing Plant affects the environment. For example, concentration of dust and suspended particles, carbon and nitrogen oxides, nitrogen and sulfur dioxides, hydrocarbons, benzo(a)pyrene and hydrogen sulfide will be determined in air samples. The results of the survey will be announced in June.

Monitoring of impact of the Amur Gas Processing Plant project on the environment has been carried out since the beginning of the plant construction. Over 2,000 samples have been taken during this period. During the entire observation period, no exceedances of the maximum permissible concentrations on water bodies, noise, soil and air pollution have been detected.

Background

Amur Gas Processing Plant will become one of the world's largest natural gas processing sites with a capacity of 42 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Commercial products, in addition to purified methane, will include ethane, propane, butane, pentane and hexane fraction, NGL, and helium. Gazprom Pererabotka Blagoveshchensk LLC (member of Gazprom Group) is the investor and owner of the Amur Gas Processing Plant project. Construction is managed by JSC NIPIGAS.
